Andrew Earles is looking forward to the Annual Congress of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) in June in Minneapolis. There, Andrew will convene a technical committee meeting to kick off the update of ASCE Manual of Practice (MOP) No. 77‒Design and Construction of Urban Stormwater Management Systems.
Andrew has been working with Ruth Ann Hocker, P.E., of the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Kathlie Jeng-Bulloch, P.E., of the City of Houston to scope out the update and recruit volunteers to author and peer review chapters. MOP No. 77 was last updated in the 1990s in an effort led by WWE's Jon Jones, with more than 100 authors, contributors and peer reviewers. Much of the content of MOP No. 77 remains relevant today, so Andrew and his committee members will be doing a targeted update to add and edit content based on the current state of the practice.
The EWRI Urban Water Resources Research Council and the Municipal Water and Infrastructure Council will conduct this update jointly with contributions from the Water Wastewater and Stormwater Council and peer review by members of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Stormwater Committee.
